Welcome

The web is no longer just a vehicle for publishing information, but has become essential to the way NASA does business. As the use and visibility of web activities increase, it is vital that advocacy, coordination and governance of these activities are given adequate attention. The purpose of the Goddard Web Council is to enhance the way web services are managed and implemented at GSFC.

Following are some of the activities of the council.

Registration of Public Web Sites

In response to questions about public web data being consistent with NASA security processes and homeland security implications,The Goddard Web Council has focused on web management and policy compliance. We set up the Web Registry to be able to answer three questions:

  • What sites do we have?
  • Who are our webmasters?
  • Are our sites in compliance with Federal Law?

The Web Registry helps in GSFC's efforts to ensure that Web sites are reviewed for content compliance with NASA policy and Federal law.

Web Review

In conjunction with the registration of all web sites that are permitted through the firewall, the Web Council will be conducting a review of all such sites to assess compliance with NASA policy and Federal Law. The date for the start of the review process has not been set.

Strategic Planning

The Web Council is currently developing a strategic plan for Goddard's web environment.
